Employee Terminations

For sudden or delicate employee terminations, the employee's hard drive should be imaged (copied) as a safeguard to mitigate damages of any potential lawsuit. The hard drive may contain information relevant to either the reason for termination or violations of internal computer/Internet usage policies.

The copy should be performed by a licensed professional investigator (as opposed to your own IT) to establish a level of independence from the data collected. In addition, the licensed private investigator can preserve the chain of custody and evidentiary integrity in case a lawsuit is filed.

Ideally, in a high risk termination, the safety officer secures the computer from tampering and walks the employee out of the building. Then our digital forensic specialists make a forensic copy of the computer's memory and hard drive.

If needed, we can then examine the computer at any time for behavior that may greatly mitigate potential damages from lawsuits. In addition, if this matter comes to court, our investigators are experienced expert witnesses that can easily explain technical information to a judge and jury.
